All aboard the Evangelion Shinkansen

From this Autumn, to commemorate both the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Sanyō Shinkansen line and the 20th anniversary of Evangelion's first television broadcast, Hideaki Anno has teamed up with mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita to design the "500 Type Eva" shinkansen for JR West.

The inside of the train will also be decorated so that passengers may continue to enjoy the world of Evangelion during their ride. In addition, various commemorative goods will be on sale and several events are said to be in the works.

The 500 Type Eva will run on the Sanyō line between Shin Ōsaka and Hakata stations from autumn 2015 until March 2017.
