Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's "Cute, mysterious, super exciting!" XR ride opens at Universal Studios Japan

The Kyary Pamyu Pamyu XR Ride opens today at Universal Studios Japan, Osaka. The ride's soundtrack has been written by Kyary's producer, Yasutaka Nakata of electronic duo CAPSULE who is also the man behind girl group Perfume.

Kyary promises that no matter where you look, for 360 degrees around you and as far as the eye can see will be "CUTE! MYSTERIOUS! SUPER EXCITING!"

Universal Studios Japan claims that it's the first XR ride in the world, a ride that goes beyond simple VR to excite your six senses and lead you to a new era of theme park attractions with Universal's cutting edge technology and creativity. A virtual 200m drop will feel unbelievably real thanks to the perfectly synchronised "gravity sensation" technology.

(Gee, writing this is really making me want to pay my first visit to a theme park.)

Kyary themed food, drinks, and merchandise will also be available. It's probably a good idea to wait until after the ride to consume these, although it looks like it would produce pretty cute puke. Could that be the ride's mysterious sixth sensory experience?

The new ride is part of Universal Studios Japan's new "Cool Japan" attractions which include rides based on world famous franchises Evangelion, Attack on Titan, and Monster Hunter as well a new Resident Evil Real Escape game. While rides based on successful film, television, and video game franchises are the norm at theme parks, I'd wager that not since the 1986 Michael Jackson "Captain EO" attraction at Disneyland has a pop star been the feature of a theme park ride.
