Japanese Mascot of the Week - #2 Nukamura-kun

A weekly series introducing the strangest yuru-kyara mascots Japan has to offer.

Nukamura-kun is the embodiment of Ogura's local specialty, nukamisodaki, rice bran-pickled headless fish. Perhaps the busiest half a fish in all Japan, Nukumura-kun is constantly rushing around on trains, traveling back and forth between his hometown and Tokyo to spread the word about nukamisodaki.

Though he doesn't know why, children cry when they see him. He ends every sentence in "NUKAAA!" (rice bran) and his catch phrase is "SHUPPAPAPA! SHUPPA!" It's a wonder he didn't rank higher.

Despite rubbing shoulders he doesn't have with the likes of superstar mascot, Melon Kuma (Melon Bear), and appearing on an episode of the Yuru-Kyara Variety Show 'Miura Jun and Anzai Hajime's "We Won't Lose to Yuru-Kyara"' (みうらじゅんアンドあんざいはじめのゆるキャラにまけない), Nukamura-kun still isn't all that popular.

As of this post, poor little hard working Nukamura-kun only has 36 followers on Twitter, although that might have something to do with his minimalistic and Monty Pythonesque tweets such as "NU," "NUNUNUNU," "NUNNU," "NUKA NUKA," "NUNUNU," and so on.

But that just leaves him more time to relax.
